Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service has nurtured Rural generalist trainees since the pathway inception in 2007.
Advanced specialist training (AST) positions are available within Cairns Hospital and the rural facilities giving medical officers the opportunity to enhance clinical practice through 12 months of focused, specialised training in preparation to transition to senior roles within rural communities of the Health Service.
Rotations at Atherton, Innisfail, Mareeba, Tully and Mossman are accommodated during PGY2 and PGY3 years. Longer-term placements are available for PGY4+. Intern rotations at Babinda are accommodated during PGY1.
